Despotic regime to twin with Chinese city

It would seem that the Peoples Republic of China is so impressed with Carmarthenshire, a twinning arrangement is likely with one of its cities, Xiangyang.

Carmarthenshire Council officers have taken their powerpoint presentations to three different areas of the country to relay their success with media blackouts, propaganda techniques, restricting democracy and even their brief foray into imprisoning dissidents.

A spokesperson for the Council said that although China was a little too liberal for their tastes, they felt that a twinning arrangement would provide a unique learning curve for the great superpower.

Council officers hope the 'Carmarthenshire News' will become widely available in China

I don't suppose this has anything at all to do with the proposed giant Chinese hotel & holiday home complex developments that are planned for Llanfynydd and which have already been heavily criticised by the Welsh Design Commission as being totally unsuitable. I can see this one being called-in too.

I suspect the Chinese connection started with the gift of silk scarves and boxes of tea for various councillors from a delegation from China a year or so ago.

The application has been withdrawn I believe, and gone back to the drawing board.

I just had a look on the project planning page (E/25673)
and couldn't find any mention of the fact that it had been withdrawn - and I couldn't find the critical letter from the Welsh Design Commission either.
Anyway I expect that CCC will now adopt the Yuan to facilitate any new/revised planning apps and there will surely be opportunities for fact-finding visits to China for our esteemed leaders.

Your right, there is no mention on the council website as to the current status of the application but according to this article from August the developers are working with council officers and the application will be resubmitted in the future;
