Rotten Borough news - Emlyn Dole in Private Eye

Although he has yet to reach the giddy heights of national recognition achieved by chief executive Mark James, Council Leader Emlyn Dole (Plaid Cymru) has a mention in this week's Private Eye Rotten Boroughs column, and could well be a future contender for an annual award!

When are the Councillors and the Leader of Carmarthen Council going to show a modicum of backbone and stand up and be counted and condemm the VINDICTIVE behaviour of the CEO M.James. By their abject failure to do so brings them into the realms of ridicule. The Councillors job is to RUN the Council for the benefit of the people of Carmarthen. There are far too many instances when it is obvious that the CEO controls the Council and anybody that dares to oppose or indeed criticise him is then subjected to threats of legal action. Not a situation expected in a democracy. In fact more akin to a dictatorship. Are these Councillors,of all political persuasions, happy with this unacceptable situation? Perhaps they should look to their inaction when J.Thompson is evicted and live with the fact that they SHOULD have stopped this vindictive behaviour by someone who feels so aggrieved and so "thin skinned " that he has persuaded the Council to spend unknown amounts of taxpayers money to fund his PERSONAL vendetta against someone who dare to bring to the attention some of the dubious practices that Carmarthen Council has adopted. When the elections take place in May these same Councillors will be seeking the support of their constituents. Remember YOU have the vote and the message needs to be sent that the present situation is NOT acceptable.

Well done Emlyn.
Well earned fame at last.
I'm sure that Plaid are proud of you.
(that is why they have lost my vote).

Plaid Councillors take charge.Vote of no confidence needed.

The two-barns fiasco was enough to make me vow not to vote Plaid again and subsequent events, including the complete volte-face regarding Jacqui and the craven surrender to the CEO in all things, have merely strengthened that decision. How these people sleep at night is beyond me.

Will be interesting to hear conversations on the doorstep leading up to the Council election in May.

Some of them( councillors) will have to be brave men to venture into certain territories.

I have voted Plaid Cymru since I was 18 , I'm now in my 40 s and will never vote Plaid again. They have lost the plot re: Llangennech , their refusal to bring members to account and lack of support for Llanelli Town, Llanelli sporting clubs, and that they support everything the CEO decides to do. the fact that PC members stood up in council and claimed there was nothing happening in Pembrey, sums up their opaque stance. I never want Wales to be an independent country, can you imagine the consequences in this already decaying county?

I have no idea who to vote for in the upcoming local elections. I cannot bring myself to vote Plaid any more after the way they appear to have rolled over and capitulated to this officer-led council; there is no way I could vote Tory masquerading as Independent, and although we have an admirable Labour candidate, I don't want the Labour group in power again. For the first time in my fairly long life I am contemplating not bothering to vote at all and it saddens me to find myself in such a position of despair.

Same here anon 16.36. Don't think I will bother voting either. Why should I vote anyone in if they don't represent and speak up for their constituents?

Support a true independent non Pamela candidate then...

Martin, there is no such thing (apart from the wonderful Cllr Caiach) in Carmarthenshire and, so far, no-one about to throw his/her hat into the ring in my ward who remotely fits that description. (And before anyone writes in to say "do it yourself" - I'm TOO OLD!)

I feel the same about Voting, seeing what goes on in Carmarthenshire, I don't even know how the current elected mob can even have the Brass to go out campaigning.

I said to a Labour candidate recently that i was voting, to which i received a backlash of "you have to vote", "people died to get the vote you know". to which i had to correct them and point how people died to be included in a democracy... Carmarthenshire and it un-elected acting cross-party chief-whip) is not a democracy.

I will Not vote for Corruption, I will not vote to give people a mandate to carry out unlawful actions, I will not vote for Mark James

I live in hope that one day, perhaps when the turn-out fall so low that CCC will have nowhere to hide but to look inward and ask, how did it get to this.

Is that the answer then? Encourage everyone to boycott the election so that it becomes obvious how disenchanted and disgusted with their so-called representatives the people of Carmarthenshire are?
